The nine-day period of Nautapa, associated with intense summer heat and special worship of the Sun God in Hindu tradition, will begin on May 25 and continue till June 2 in 2026. Devotees believe this period is spiritually important for seeking blessings, improving confidence and reducing Surya Dosha.

Nautapa, considered one of the hottest periods of the summer season in Hindu tradition, will begin on May 25, 2026, and continue till June 2. The period starts when the Sun enters the Rohini Nakshatra and its direct rays are believed to intensify heat across the Earth.

According to Hindu beliefs and astrology, these nine days are considered highly significant for worshipping Surya Dev (Sun God), who is associated with energy, health, confidence, leadership and success.

Astrologers say problems such as delayed promotions despite hard work, strained relations with one’s father, repeated health troubles and loss of confidence are often linked with Surya Dosha in a horoscope. It is believed that certain habits during Nautapa may either strengthen or worsen this planetary influence.

Experts advise avoiding tamasic food and intoxicants during Nautapa. Consumption of non-vegetarian food, alcohol and similar substances is believed to negatively affect health and increase Surya Dosha, which may create obstacles in career and business.

Long-distance travel is also generally discouraged during this period due to the intense heat and risk of health-related issues. Similarly, astrologers advise against conducting major auspicious events such as marriages, housewarming ceremonies or starting new businesses during Nautapa.

Another important recommendation is maintaining discipline in daily routine. Devotees are encouraged to wake up early, bathe and offer water to the rising Sun. Sleeping late and ignoring morning worship rituals are believed to invite negative effects related to the Sun’s influence.

Hindu tradition also links the Sun with one’s father and elders. Disrespecting parents or elderly people during Nautapa is considered especially inauspicious and is believed to increase difficulties in life.

At the same time, Nautapa is viewed as a favourable period for charity and spiritual practices. Donating water, buttermilk, cold sherbet, earthen pots, sattu, fans, wheat, rice and fruits with high water content such as muskmelon is considered highly beneficial during these nine days.

Religious texts and astrologers also recommend chanting “Om Suryaya Namah” daily and reciting the Aditya Hridaya Stotra to seek blessings from Surya Dev. Consuming simple sattvic food, fruits and cooling drinks is also encouraged for both physical and mental wellbeing during the extreme summer heat.

Many devotees believe that worship and charity performed during Nautapa may also help reduce Pitru Dosha, as Surya Dev is regarded as a representative of ancestors in Hindu beliefs.
