Pune Police Tighten Security Checks At City Entry Points; Inspections To Be Held On Seven Major Routes
Pune, May 18, 2026: In an effort to curb rising crime in the city, Pune Police has decided to launch a special vehicle checking drive at key entry points across Pune. Police barricading and selective vehicle inspections will be carried out on different routes throughout the week.
The intensified checking campaign will be conducted on seven major roads leading into the city, including Satara Road, Baner Road, Solapur Road, Old Pune-Mumbai Highway, Nagar Road, Sinhagad Road and Saswad Road.
According to police officials, vehicle inspections will be carried out every night during fixed hours. During the operation, police personnel will verify vehicle documents, inspect suspicious vehicles and monitor suspected criminals and anti-social elements entering the city.

The drive aims to strengthen preventive policing measures by keeping strict surveillance on vehicles entering Pune.
Officials from the traffic branch, local police stations and the crime branch will jointly participate in the operation. Police said barricading points will be rotated across different city entry routes every week, and motorists entering or leaving Pune may face thorough checks.
The special drive will be implemented regularly across areas under the jurisdiction of the Pune Police Commissionerate.
For the campaign, police inspectors, sub-inspectors and other personnel will be deployed at each checkpoint, while the traffic department will provide additional manpower. Police teams stationed at barricading points will also carry weapons including 9 mm carbines, pistols, revolvers and ammunition as part of security preparedness.
Police clarified that not every vehicle will be stopped. Instead, suspicious vehicles will be selectively checked to avoid unnecessary inconvenience to commuters. Authorities have appealed to motorists to carry all necessary vehicle documents while travelling.
Senior police officers will monitor the operation through night rounds, and daily reports of the vehicle checking drive will be submitted to Deputy Commissioners of Police. The police control room will also review the effectiveness of the campaign regularly.
