Pune, May 18, 2026: In a major development for residents of Mohamadwadi, NIBM Road, Undri and surrounding areas the drinking water over head tanks opposite Dorabjee Mall on NIBM Road were inaugurated on Monday in the presence of local citizens, housing society members and political representatives.

The inauguration ceremony, organised by Pramod Bhangire, Pune City President, Shiv Sena was marked by a grand puja and community gathering attended by residents from Mohamadwadi and NIBM Annexe areas, senior citizens, representatives of NGOs, housing societies and members of various local forums.

According to organisers, the water supply project is the result of continuous follow-up efforts undertaken since 2017 to address the growing drinking water concerns in the rapidly developing residential belt of South Pune.

Residents said the commissioning of the overhead tanks has brought hope to thousands of families who have struggled with irregular water supply and dependence on private tankers for years. The project is expected to strengthen water distribution in parts of Mahadevwadi, NIBM Road, Dorabjee area and nearby localities.

Speaking during the event, Pramod Bhangire described the inauguration as a “people’s programme,” with common citizens performing the ceremonial inauguration instead of political leaders alone.

The project includes large-capacity water tanks developed under the Pune Municipal Corporation’s water infrastructure expansion plan. Citizens present at the event expressed optimism that the initiative would improve water storage and supply management in the area, particularly during summer months when shortages become severe.

Bhangire stated that the residents’ reliance on private water tankers will now end completely. They patiently waited for a decade but now with the commissioning of water tanks the residents have heaved a sigh of relief. It is purely the residents and residents forum pressure and focus along with political leaders who constantly followed despite the hurdles.

However, some residents from nearby Undri and Handewadi also pointed out that while the inauguration was a positive step, several hilltop and peripheral areas still await proper pipeline connectivity and regular PMC water supply.

The event concluded with prayers for uninterrupted water supply and appeals for faster infrastructure development across the wider Undri-Mohamadwadi belt.
