Pune: PMC Issues Show-Cause Notice To Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital After Six-Year-Old Girl Dies During Eye Procedure
Pune, May 19, 2026: A tragic incident at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital has sparked outrage after a six-year-old girl allegedly died during an eye surgery procedure, leading to serious allegations of medical negligence against the hospital staff.
According to reports, the child, identified as Priyanshi Bagde, was undergoing treatment for squint eye and glaucoma-related complications. Family members claimed that all her medical reports were normal before the surgery and that she was in stable condition when taken into the operation theatre.
However, during the procedure, doctors reportedly informed the family that the child had suffered a critical medical emergency. Relatives alleged that she later started bleeding from the mouth and did not respond despite emergency efforts by the medical team.
The girl’s father has accused the doctors and hospital authorities of negligence and improper treatment. The family suspects that incorrect or excessive administration of anesthesia may have contributed to her death.
A complaint has reportedly been registered at Alankar Police Station, and police officials said further action will depend on the postmortem report and findings of the medical inquiry committee. Authorities are also examining whether any procedural lapses occurred during the surgery.
The incident has triggered widespread debate over patient safety, hospital accountability, and medical protocols in Pune. Family members have demanded a detailed investigation and strict action if negligence is proven.
