Pune, May 20, 2026: Fresh tensions have surfaced in Pune’s ongoing gang rivalry after a young man, reportedly the brother of an accused in the murder case of former corporator Vanraj Andekar, was killed in a violent attack in the Balajinagar area.
The incident took place in Balajinagar, where unidentified assailants allegedly opened fire on the victim before attacking him with sharp weapons. The attack created panic in the locality and raised fresh concerns over escalating gang violence in the city.
Police officials said the murder is suspected to be linked to the long-standing rivalry between the Andekar and Komkar gangs. Preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have been carried out as part of an ongoing cycle of revenge killings connected to the Vanraj Andekar murder case.
After receiving information about the incident, teams from Pune Police rushed to the spot and increased security deployment in the area. One injured person is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, while police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
Investigators said the deceased’s brother is an accused in the Vanraj Andekar murder case, leading to suspicion that members linked to the Andekar gang may have carried out the attack in retaliation.
Police sources said this is reportedly the fourth murder linked to the ongoing feud after the killing of Vanraj Andekar, intensifying questions over law and order in Pune.
The gang rivalry dates back several years and is believed to involve disputes over personal enmity, criminal activities and property-related conflicts. Earlier investigations by the Pune Crime Branch had revealed that the murder of Vanraj Andekar was allegedly the result of a conspiracy involving multiple accused linked to rival gangs.
Police are examining CCTV footage from the area and conducting searches to identify and arrest the attackers. Heavy security has been deployed in Balajinagar and nearby localities to prevent further violence.
