Raigad Fort Stairway To Remain Closed On May 30-31 Ahead Of Shivrajyabhishek Celebrations
Mahad, May 22: The district administration has announced that the stairway route leading to the historic Raigad Fort will remain completely closed on May 30 and 31 due to security measures ahead of the Shivrajyabhishek Day celebrations.
The decision was issued by the District Disaster Management Authority, considering the large number of devotees and Shivaji Maharaj followers expected to gather at the fort during the annual ceremony. Shivrajyabhishek Day is observed every year at Raigad Fort according to both the traditional tithi and the calendar date.
Authorities stated that the closure is aimed at ensuring the safety of visitors. The administration referred to a 2023 incident in which a devotee reportedly lost his life after a rock fell from a cliffside while returning from the ceremony.

As part of preventive measures, loose rocks and dangerous sections along the cliff area will be removed with the help of trained mountaineers before the event. During this period, entry through the stairway route will be strictly prohibited.
Police personnel will also be deployed in the area, and movement near key entry points, including Nane Darwaza and the Jagdishwar Temple route, will be regulated.
The administration has appealed to citizens and Shiv devotees to cooperate with the restrictions and follow safety instructions during the celebrations.
