Pimpri, May 25, 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has intensified its drive against encroachments on footpaths across the city, with Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi issuing a stern warning to shopkeepers to remove illegal encroachments outside their establishments within 15 days or face strict action.

Speaking during a review meeting held at the PCMC headquarters in Pimpri, Dr. Suryavanshi said footpaths are meant exclusively for pedestrians and any encroachment obstructing public movement will not be tolerated. He stated that several shopkeepers have illegally extended their business areas and placed materials outside their shops, causing inconvenience to citizens and creating traffic obstructions.

“If such encroachments are not permanently removed within the next 15 days, the municipal corporation will initiate strict action against the concerned establishments,” the commissioner warned.

The meeting reviewed anti-encroachment operations being carried out across various ward offices of the civic body. Senior officials, including Additional Commissioners Kuldeep Jangam, Tripti Sandbhor and Vikrant Bagade, along with other civic officials and regional officers, were present.

PCMC has launched a citywide campaign to make footpaths encroachment-free and ensure safe and uninterrupted movement for pedestrians. The civic administration has directed officials to ensure that once encroachments are removed, they do not reappear at the same locations.

Dr. Suryavanshi also instructed civic officials to identify designated spaces for hawkers and develop organised hawker zones in each ward. He emphasised the need for continuous monitoring through mobile enforcement squads to prevent traffic congestion and maintain cleanliness in the city.

The commissioner further stated that some shopkeepers deliberately occupy additional space in front of their shops and illegally store goods outside, creating obstacles for traffic and pedestrians alike. He reiterated that failure to remove such illegal extensions and materials within the stipulated time would result in demolition drives and legal action by the civic body.
