Pune, May 26: The rumours circulating on social media about a supposed 14-day curfew in Pune have been officially clarified that no curfew or city-wide lockdown has been imposed by the city police and authorities.

The Pune Police stated that the claims about restrictions on public movement, banned gatherings, and introduced emergency measures through forwarded messages and online posts are false and misleading.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar clarified that there are no restrictions on the movement of citizens, and people are free to travel normally across the city. He further said that the prohibitory orders being discussed online are routine administrative measures regularly issued to maintain law and order and prevent criminal activities.

The authorities have denied the false rumours circulating on social media. However, the Pune Municipal Corporation  (PMC) had imposed strict austerity measures on employees, such as carpooling, reduced official vehicle usage, and mandatory public transport usage.

While the rumours are misleading, the police confirmed that a crackdown is currently underway against unauthorised roadside vendors, hawkers, paan kiosks, and eateries operating beyond permitted hours. The action is focused mainly on establishments functioning after the 10 pm deadline without valid permissions.

Whom are the restrictions for?

-Street vendors

-Food stalls and khau gallis

-Paan shops

-Outdoor roadside dining setups operating illegally or beyond permitted hours

Several areas, including FC Road, JM Road, Karve Road, Kothrud, Baner, Kondhwa, Katraj and Phurunsgi witness heavy late-night crowds, making them vulnerable to criminal activities and public inconvenience.

Establishments operating until 3 a.m. and illegally occupying footpaths, causing pedestrian obstruction, are now required to close by 10 p.m., unless they have valid licenses permitting extended operations. The licensed restaurants, bars, and legal establishments can continue functioning according to the timings mentioned in their official licenses.

The Pune Police have urged citizens not to spread false rumours or share unverified information and to rely only on official government and police announcements for updates regarding public safety measures.
