Maharashtra Weather Alert For May 28: Next 12 Hours Critical as Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Likely Across State
Maharashtra, May 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued multiple weather alerts across Maharashtra, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and rising temperatures over the next 12 hours. The pre-monsoon activity has created a mixed weather pattern across the state, with several districts placed under Yellow, Orange, and Red alerts.
According to the IMD, four districts in the Konkan region — Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, and Raigad — have been issued a Yellow Alert for heatwave-like conditions on May 28. Citizens have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun due to rising temperatures and humidity levels. Light rainfall accompanied by thundercloud activity is also expected in isolated areas.
In western Maharashtra, districts including Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, and Sangli have been placed under a Yellow Alert for rain and thunderstorms. Weather officials have predicted a sudden change in conditions during the afternoon hours, with chances of gusty winds and moderate rainfall. Farmers have been urged to safeguard harvested crops and stored grains.
The IMD has also issued a Yellow Alert for rain in Marathwada districts such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed. These regions may witness light to moderate rainfall along with thunder and lightning activity.
Meanwhile, Vidarbha remains on high alert. Orange Alerts for severe heat conditions have been issued in Akola, Amravati, and Bhandara, while Yavatmal is under an Orange Alert for heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as strong winds and lightning strikes are likely in several areas.
A Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall has been issued in six Vidarbha districts — Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, and Washim. Authorities have warned of intense downpours, waterlogging, and possible disruptions in low-lying areas.
Although no formal alerts have been issued for districts such as Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Nashik, Solapur, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in isolated parts of these regions.
