Pune Drunk Driving Incident: Car Falls Off Garware Bridge in Deccan, 19-Year-Old Booked
Pune: A major drunk driving incident was reported in Pune’s busy Deccan area late at night after a speeding car crashed through the railing of Garware Bridge and plunged below. The accident, involving a 19-year-old driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol, has once again raised serious concerns over road safety and reckless driving in the city.
Car Loses Control on Garware Bridge
The incident took place around 1:30 am on May 25 near the statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the Deccan area. According to police officials, the accused, identified as Atharv Amit Jain (19), was driving along Jangli Maharaj Road towards Deccan Gymkhana in a highly reckless manner.
While travelling from Garware Bridge towards Goodluck Chowk, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to overspeeding. The car, rammed into the bridge railing with tremendous force before breaking through it and falling off the bridge.
No Casualties Reported
Despite the severity of the crash, no casualties were reported in the incident. Locals and motorists gathered at the spot after hearing the loud crash, which created panic in the area. Fortunately, no pedestrians or vehicles were present beneath the bridge at the time of the accident, preventing a potentially major tragedy.
Police officials stated that only the driver was involved in the accident and no other person sustained injuries.
Deccan Police Register Case Against Teen Driver
A case has been registered at the Deccan Police Station against Atharv Amit Jain for drunk driving and endangering public safety. Police rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the accident and detained the accused. He was later served a notice as part of the legal procedure.
Authorities have also initiated the process of seizing the damaged vehicle and conducting a detailed investigation into the incident.

The shocking accident has sparked outrage among Pune residents, especially as incidents of drunk driving and reckless speeding continue to rise across the city. Citizens have demanded stricter enforcement and stronger action against motorists endangering lives on Pune’s busy roads.
