Paid e-Challans Still Showing Pending Due to Vahan Portal Glitch, Pune Citizens Concerned
Pune, May 28: Vehicle owners in Pune are facing difficulties after paying their traffic e-challans online, as several payments made through the Vahan portal are still showing as “pending” because of a technical issue in the system.
Despite successful payment transactions and money being deducted from bank accounts, the portal is reportedly failing to complete the backend processing and generate payment receipts in many cases. The issue has continued for the past several days, leaving citizens worried about possible penalties or legal complications.

Several Punekars said they were unable to download payment receipts or confirmation slips after completing their transactions. Many fear that since the challans continue to appear unpaid on the portal, they may face difficulties during future vehicle-related procedures linked to the Vahan system.
Rahul Gangwani, an IT professional from Kharadi, said he paid a ₹1,000 fine for riding without a helmet nearly a week ago, but the challan status still remains pending.
“The amount was deducted immediately from my account and the payment page displayed a successful transaction. However, I never received the final receipt. Even after checking again later, the challan was still visible on the portal as unpaid,” he said.
Another resident, Manisha Patwardhan from Baner, said she faced a similar issue after paying a seat belt violation fine online.
“The government encourages digital payments, so I chose to pay the challan online. But after completing the transaction, there was no receipt available for download and the status remained incomplete. If the issue continues, people may accidentally pay the same challan twice,” she said.
Pune Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad confirmed that the department is aware of the technical problem and is coordinating with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and senior department officials to resolve it.
“There is a technical issue affecting the completion of e-challan payments on the Vahan portal. While the payment gateway is successfully accepting transactions, backend processing and receipt generation are facing difficulties in some cases. Citizens who have already paid should safely keep their bank transaction details and payment references until the issue is resolved,” Gaikwad said.
Officials stated that complaints are being monitored regularly and efforts are underway to restore normal functioning of the system as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, citizens have demanded immediate action from the transport department and requested an official clarification assuring vehicle owners that those who have already paid their fines will not face additional penalties because of the ongoing system glitch.
