Pimpri, June 1, 2026: Residents and commuters in Tathawade, Punawale and Wakad may soon get big relief from chronic traffic woes, as Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has directed officials to expedite the completion of service roads and expand underpasses in the area.
The information was announced in a review meeting held on pending national highway projects held in Pune last Saturday. The meeting saw the presence of MLA Chinchwad constituency Shankar Jagtap, who highlighted the traffic woes along National Highway 48 (Pune Western Bypass).
Jagtap stated that the three important service roads in Tathawade, Punawale and Wakad will now be taken up on a priority basis. He also informed that the widening of Tathawade and Punawale underpass will be taken on priority.

Jagtap further stated that existing underpasses at Sayaji, Bhumkar Chowk, Tathawade, Punawale, Pavana River Crossing, Kiwale Junction and Mamurdi are struggling to handle the increasing volume of vehicles.
