Pune: Amanora School Celebrates World Environment Day with Purpose and Action
Pune, June 5, 2026: World Environment Day, observed globally on June 5, serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve the planet for future generations. Emphasizing the importance of sustainable living and environmental stewardship, Amanora School celebrated the day with a series of meaningful and engaging activities across Grades IX to XII.
The celebrations commenced with a tree plantation ceremony on the school campus led by Director, Principal Ms. Meera Nair, Middle and Senior School Headmistress Ms. Amrita Gangwal, Primary School Headmistress Ms. Sujata Rathaur, coordinators and teachers. Reinforcing the spirit of the occasion, students also took an environmental pledge administered by Ms. Amrita Gangwal, committing themselves to safeguarding nature and adopting eco-friendly practices. The ceremony symbolized the school’s commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious citizens and fostering a culture of sustainability

A major highlight of the day was the tree plantation drive at Anandvan Foundation, Pune, where Grade XI students planted 40 saplings as part of an initiative promoting reforestation and biodiversity conservation. The students interacted with members of the foundation, gaining valuable insights into native tree species and their role in maintaining ecological balance. The experience underscored the significance of collective action in creating a greener and more sustainable future.
Grade XII students further strengthened the school’s green mission by participating in a tree plantation drive within the school campus. Their inspiring slogan, “Nature’s Beauty is Our Duty,” echoed the day’s message of environmental responsibility.

Grade X students spread awareness through powerful performances and creative campaigns. Their Nukkad Natak (Street Play) on waste management effectively communicated the importance of the 4 Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Refuse. An Advertisement-Making Competition focusing on e-waste management and reducing plastic usage further emphasized the urgent need for sustainable alternatives and responsible consumption.

Creativity and environmental consciousness went hand in hand as Grade IX students transformed school corridors through an Inter-House Bulletin Board Decoration Competition and Poem Writing Activity based on the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.” The vibrant displays and thought-provoking poems encouraged students to reflect on climate action and their individual role in protecting the environment.
Grade IX students also participated in a “Best Out of Waste” workshop designed to promote sustainable living and responsible consumption. The activity encouraged students to rethink waste as a valuable resource by creatively transforming discarded materials into useful and artistic products. Through this hands-on experience, students gained a deeper understanding of the principles of reuse, resource conservation, and waste reduction, while developing innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.

Through these diverse initiatives, Amanora School successfully combined education, creativity, and action, inspiring students to become environmentally conscious citizens. The celebration served as a powerful reminder that every small step towards conservation contributes to a healthier planet.

As the school community came together to honour World Environment Day, the message was clear: protecting the environment is not merely a responsibility but a commitment to future generations. Through awareness, action, and collective effort, Amanora School continues to nurture young minds dedicated to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable tomorrow.
