Pune, June 12, 2026: Amid the controversy surrounding the alleged NEET examination paper leak, thousands of students and youth staged a massive protest at Savitribai Phule Pune University on Thursday, demanding the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on moral grounds.
The protest, organized under the banner of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), echoed across the university campus with slogans against alleged corruption in the education system. Led by social activists Sonam Wangchuk and Abhijit Deepke, the demonstration also called for compensation for students affected by examination irregularities and demanded greater accountability in the education sector.
The agitation began around 4 p.m. near the statue of B. R. Ambedkar at the university. Apart from students, a significant number of senior citizens and members of Pune’s social and educational sectors participated in the protest. Social activists Vishwambhar Choudhary and Asim Sarode were among those who extended support to the students.
Protesters carried placards with messages such as “Paper Leak Government,” “Leak in India,” “Our Future, Our Right,” and “Education for All, Employment for All.”
Addressing the gathering, Sonam Wangchuk said the government must take education and environmental issues seriously. He emphasized that truth and non-violence remain the path toward building a truly developed India. Wangchuk stated that the movement was not directed against any particular government but sought a system that responds responsibly to public concerns.
Speaking at the event, Abhijeet Dipke criticized remarks made by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had reportedly accused protesters of creating unrest. Deepke argued that fighting for constitutional rights and invoking the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar cannot be termed anarchy. He further stated that the younger generation would not be swayed by politics based on religious or communal divisions.
Five Major Resolutions Passed
- Students should receive compensation of ₹10,000 if an examination paper leak occurs.
- The examination process should undergo strict auditing, and contracts should not be awarded to relatives of ministers.
- Examination results should be declared within a fixed and stipulated timeframe.
- The government should bear students’ travel expenses to and from examination centres.
- The map of the Hindavi Swarajya of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which was reportedly removed from NCERT textbooks, should be reinstated.
The protest concluded with participants vowing to continue their campaign for transparency, accountability, and reforms in the education system.
