Pune, June 12, 2026: Residents of Konark Puram Society in Kondhwa are increasingly worried about a recurring problem that has been disturbing the neighborhood for months. Every night, groups of people reportedly gather on the footpath outside the society premises to consume alcohol, turning a public space into an unofficial drinking spot. What begins as an evening gathering often leaves behind a trail of litter, causing inconvenience and concern among residents.
By morning, the footpath is frequently strewn with empty liquor bottles, plastic cups, food wrappers, and other waste. Residents say the sight not only creates an unhygienic environment but also affects the overall appearance of the area. Many pedestrians, including senior citizens and children, are forced to navigate around the litter while using the footpath.

Locals claim that they have repeatedly raised the issue with the concerned authorities, hoping for a lasting solution. However, despite several complaints, the problem continues unabated. Residents allege that the lack of regular monitoring and enforcement has emboldened offenders, allowing the nuisance to persist.
The situation has also sparked concerns about public safety. Residents fear that alcohol consumption in an open public area could lead to altercations, reckless behavior, or accidents, particularly during late-night hours. Families living in the vicinity say they feel uncomfortable witnessing such activities so close to their homes.
Residents are now appealing to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Kondhwa police to intervene immediately. They have requested stricter patrolling, installation of surveillance measures, and regular cleaning of the area to restore cleanliness and ensure that public spaces remain safe and accessible for everyone.
