Pune: Petrol Dealers Seek Immediate CNG Pressure Restoration, More Stations Across City

The Petrol Dealers Association Pune (PDAP), under the leadership of its President Dhruv Ruparel, along with members of the Working Committee and selected CNG dealers, today held a detailed meeting with the Managing Director of Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL), Girja Shankar, and senior officials regarding the persistent low CNG pressure across Pune.
The PDAP delegation comprised President Mr. Dhruv Ruparel, Working Committee Members Keyur Shah, Bhagyendra Chudasama, Dhananjay Shitole, and CNG dealers Ghanshyam Dharmavat, Suvarna Patil and Ameya Malpathak.
During the meeting, PDAP highlighted the severe hardship being faced by CNG consumers and dealers due to the prolonged low-pressure situation, which has continued for over a month. The issue has resulted in long queues at CNG stations, traffic congestion, operational disruptions, financial losses to dealers and significant inconvenience to the public. Dealers also continue to face the frustration and anger of consumers despite the issue being entirely beyond their control.
PDAP strongly urged MNGL to immediately restore normal gas pressure across all CNG stations and ensure uninterrupted and adequate gas supply to every retail outlet. The Association also requested MNGL to issue an official public communication explaining the reasons for the disruption and providing a clear timeline for restoration of normal supply.
Considering the growing traffic congestion around CNG stations, PDAP requested Managing Director Girja Shankar to convene a joint meeting of MNGL, the District Administration, Pune Police and PDAP to brief all stakeholders on the prevailing situation and jointly formulate practical measures to manage traffic, maintain law and order and minimise inconvenience to citizens until the issue is fully resolved.
PDAP further stressed that Pune’s rapidly increasing CNG vehicle population demands a significant expansion of the city’s CNG infrastructure. The Association urged MNGL to prepare and implement a time-bound roadmap for increasing the number of CNG dispensing stations, augmenting pipeline capacity, strengthening the overall distribution network, and accelerating the commissioning of new CNG stations across Pune to meet future demand and prevent recurrence of such situations.
Shri Girja Shankar assured the delegation that corrective measures are underway and that MNGL is making every effort to improve the situation at the earliest.
Statement by PDAP President Dhruv Ruparel. He said, ““The patience of CNG consumers and dealers has been severely tested over the past month. Dealers are the face of the service but are being unfairly held responsible for a problem entirely beyond their control. We appreciate the positive response and assurance extended by Girja Shankar and the MNGL management. However, what is now required is swift and visible action on the ground.”
PDAP has urged MNGL to immediately restore normal gas pressure, convene a joint coordination meeting with the District Administration and Pune Police, and implement a time-bound plan to strengthen Pune’s CNG infrastructure. We have also strongly emphasized that the existing number of CNG stations is inadequate for a rapidly growing city like Pune. Expansion of the CNG network through a substantial increase in dispensing stations, augmentation of the gas distribution infrastructure and faster commissioning of new CNG stations is no longer an option—it is an urgent necessity. These measures will reduce waiting time, ease traffic congestion, improve consumer convenience and ensure reliable, uninterrupted CNG supply across the city. PDAP will continue to pursue this matter vigorously until a permanent and sustainable solution is achieved in the interest of both consumers and dealers.”
