June 13, 2026: Indian Railways is set to launch a new and upgraded IRCTC website by July 15, aiming to provide passengers with a faster, smoother and more user-friendly ticket booking experience.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the development during an interaction with students at Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) in Jaipur. The new platform is expected to feature modern technology and advanced functions designed to improve online ticket booking and passenger services.

According to railway officials, the revamped website will be part of a broader modernization of Indian Railways’ passenger reservation system (PRS), which has been in operation for nearly four decades. The upgraded reservation platform is expected to be rolled out from August.

The new PRS will significantly increase booking capacity. Indian Railways has stated that the upgraded system will be capable of handling more than 1.5 lakh ticket bookings per minute, compared to around 32,000 bookings per minute on the current system.

The enquiry capacity will also see a major boost, increasing from approximately 4 lakh enquiries per minute to over 40 lakh enquiries per minute, enabling passengers to access information more quickly during peak booking periods.

Officials said the new reservation platform will offer a multilingual and user-friendly interface. Passengers will be able to select their preferred seats during booking and access a fare calendar to compare ticket prices across different dates.

The upgraded system will also include features aimed at improving accessibility for Divyangjan passengers, students, patients and other categories of travellers.

In addition to the website overhaul, Indian Railways has highlighted the role of its RailOne mobile application, often referred to as a “super app.” The app uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide passengers with better predictions about the chances of waitlisted tickets getting confirmed, while offering access to multiple railway services through a single platform.
