Pune, June 15, 2026: Residents of Lotus Court Society in Kharadi have raised serious concerns over the installation of a high-voltage electricity junction box by MSEDCL (Mahavitaran) near the entrance of their residential complex, alleging that the structure poses a significant risk to public safety.
According to residents, the junction box was installed on Old Mundhwa Road approximately four months ago without obtaining prior permission from the housing society. Despite repeated concerns raised by residents, the installation remains in place, prompting fears of a potential accident.
Residents claim that the high-voltage equipment has been positioned immediately adjacent to the society gate, an area frequently used by residents, visitors, and pedestrians. They argue that the location of the junction box creates a serious safety hazard, particularly for children and senior citizens.
Adding to the concerns, residents allege that the structure lacks adequate support and stability. One of the supporting pillars or legs of the junction box has reportedly bent, raising questions about its structural integrity and increasing the risk of collapse or electrical hazards.
The society members have warned that any malfunction, accident, or untoward incident involving the junction box could have severe consequences. They have called upon Mahavitaran and the concerned authorities to urgently inspect the installation, assess the safety risks, and take corrective measures to prevent a potential tragedy.
Residents are also demanding accountability from the utility provider, stating that public safety must be prioritized in the installation of electrical infrastructure within residential areas. They have urged authorities to relocate the junction box or reinforce it immediately to eliminate the perceived danger.
