Pune, June 15, 2026:Ā  A 28-year-old construction worker died after falling from a height while working on the ongoing flyover project at Katraj Chowk in Pune. The incident has raised serious concerns over safety measures at the construction site, with the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police launching an investigation into the matter.

The deceased has been identified as Mukesh Kumar (28), a native of Uttar Pradesh. He was employed as a labourer at the flyover construction site. According to preliminary information, Kumar was working on an elevated section of the structure on Saturday afternoon when he allegedly lost his balance and fell from a considerable height.

He sustained severe head injuries and multiple injuries to other parts of his body in the fall. Co-workers immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.

Upon receiving information about the incident, officers from the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station reached the spot and conducted a panchnama. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Police have initiated an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident. Investigators are examining whether mandatory safety equipment was provided to workers, whether safety protocols were followed at the site, and if any negligence contributed to the fatal incident. Statements are also being recorded from officials of the construction company responsible for the project.

The tragedy has sparked concern in the Katraj area and once again highlighted the issue of worker safety at construction sites. The exact cause of the accident is expected to become clear following the completion of the police investigation.
