Pune, June 16, 2026: A major fire broke out at four commercial establishments in Handewadi Chowk on the Hadapsar-Katraj Bypass Road, causing extensive damage to furniture and other materials. Prompt action by the Pune Fire Brigade prevented the blaze from escalating into a larger disaster.

The fire erupted in four adjoining shops—Furniture House, Sajavat Furniture, Veerbhadra Furniture, and Technofast Electric—located next to Shivendra Hotel. Each establishment reportedly covered an area of approximately 2,000 square feet. Large quantities of furniture and commercial stock were destroyed in the incident.

Upon receiving the alert, a fire engine from the Kalepadal Fire Station was the first to reach the scene and immediately began firefighting operations. Additional support soon arrived from Kondhwa Budruk, Kondhwa Khurd, Hadapsar, Gangadham, and the Central Fire Station, along with multiple water tankers from the Pune Municipal Corporation and local agencies.

After several hours of continuous efforts, firefighters succeeded in bringing the blaze under control and completely extinguishing it. During the operation, an LPG cylinder found at the site was safely removed, eliminating the risk of an explosion.

Officials noted that the situation was particularly critical because a petrol pump and Shivendra Hotel were located adjacent to the affected shops. The fire brigade’s rapid and coordinated response ensured that the flames did not spread to these nearby establishments, averting what could have been a major catastrophe.

The firefighting and rescue operation involved Station Officers Sameer SheikhAnil GaikwadSunil Naiknavare, Officer-in-Charge Vilas DadasKailas Shinde, and other fire personnel. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode.

Residents and business owners in the area expressed gratitude to the fire brigade, praising the team’s swift, courageous, and well-coordinated efforts that prevented a potentially devastating incident. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
