Pune: Aundh Residents Push For Action Against Footpath Encroachments
Pune, June 23, 2026: Responding to growing concerns from residents, corporator Sunny Vinayak Nimhan has taken up the issue of encroachments on public footpaths in the Parihar Chowk area with the Aundh-Baner Regional Office of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Nimhan met the Deputy Commissioner of the regional office on Monday and submitted a memorandum highlighting the difficulties faced by citizens due to encroachments on footpaths between Parihar Chowk and the Western Mall area in Ward No. 8.

According to the memorandum, footpaths intended for the safe movement of pedestrians, senior citizens, women, students and local residents are allegedly being occupied for residential and other unauthorized uses at several locations. The encroachments have reportedly forced pedestrians to walk on the main roads, increasing the risk of accidents and contributing to traffic congestion.
Nimhan stated that local residents have repeatedly raised the issue and lodged multiple complaints regarding the encroachments. He emphasized that public footpaths must remain free of obstructions to ensure pedestrian safety, maintain cleanliness and preserve civic order.
Taking note of the concerns, the Deputy Commissioner assured that the matter would be inspected on priority and that the concerned civic departments would initiate the necessary action. The PMC administration also assured that appropriate measures would be taken to address the inconvenience faced by citizens.
Nimhan said he would continue to pursue issues related to the safety, convenience and overall quality of life of residents in the ward and work closely with civic authorities to ensure timely solutions.
