Mumbai, June 26, 2026: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Dina Patil has publicly apologised to journalists following a controversy over his alleged use of abusive language and threats during an interaction with members of the media.

The apology came after journalists boycotted his press conference in protest against his behaviour. Patil later released a video expressing regret over the incident and apologised to the media fraternity.

“I sincerely apologise to all journalists for the abusive words that I unintentionally used during the heated exchange,” Patil said in the video.

Explaining the circumstances that led to the confrontation, Patil said he had repeatedly requested journalists not to question him on the issue, claiming he had already stated his position. However, he alleged that repeated questioning escalated the situation, leading to the verbal outburst.

Patil also appealed to critics to keep his family out of political controversies.

“You are free to criticise my political stand, but please do not drag my wife, daughter, mother or my late father into politics. Spreading false allegations and using abusive language against my family is unacceptable,” he said.

The Shiv Sena MP further claimed that since joining the party, he had been subjected to continuous criticism and personal attacks but had chosen to remain silent. He said the repeated references to his family during interactions with the media contributed to the confrontation.

Patil acknowledged that he lost his temper during the exchange and reiterated his apology.

“What happened between me and the journalists should not have happened. I once again express my heartfelt regret to the entire media fraternity for my choice of words,” he said.

The apology follows widespread criticism after Patil allegedly abused and threatened journalists during a media interaction, prompting strong reactions from journalist associations and members of the press.
