Pune, June 26, 2026: In preparation for the annual Ashadhi Palkhi procession of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj scheduled in July, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has launched a major drive against illegal hoardings, clearing 70 unauthorised structures along the Palkhi routes within its jurisdiction.

The civic authority said the initiative aims to ensure the safe and smooth movement of lakhs of Warkaris participating in the annual pilgrimage. PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari and Additional Commissioner K. Manjulakshmi had directed officials in May to survey the Palkhi routes and remove all unauthorised hoardings.

Following the directive, the PMRDA’s Encroachment and Unauthorised Construction Department surveyed around 123 hoardings located along the Palkhi routes passing through Haveli, Daund and Purandar talukas.

The action included the removal of 32 hoardings on the Haveli–Solapur Road13 in Daund13 in Purandar, and 12 at Wadki. Officials also said that some hoarding owners voluntarily removed their structures after receiving notices.

PMRDA has now extended the survey to other major roads and prominent locations across its jurisdiction in Pune district. Authorities said strict action will continue against any hoardings found to have been installed without the necessary approvals.

The authority has urged advertisers and commercial establishments to obtain mandatory permissions before erecting hoardings, warning that any unauthorised structures will be removed without exception.

PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari reiterated that obtaining official approval is compulsory for installing hoardings anywhere within the authority’s jurisdiction and said that the administration will continue its crackdown on violations to ensure public safety and compliance with regulations.
