Lonavala, June 29, 2026: A local court on Monday extended the police custody of accused Chetan Chaudhary by four days in the Ketan Agarwal murder case, despite objections raised by the defence, which argued that investigators had failed to justify the need for further custodial interrogation.

Advocate Radhikesh Uttarwar, representing Chaudhary, said the defence did not argue the merits of the case as the investigation is still underway and the complete facts are yet to emerge.

“Our argument was limited to the issue of police custody. Chetan had already been in police custody for seven days, and the prosecution sought an additional seven-day remand. We submitted that no valid grounds had been presented to justify extending his custody,” Uttarwar told reporters after the hearing.

The defence argued that any recoveries or evidence collection required by the investigating agency could have been completed during the initial seven-day custody period, making further police remand unnecessary.

However, considering the seriousness of the case, the court granted the police four additional days of custody to allow investigators to continue their probe.

According to Uttarwar, the prosecution informed the court that investigators still needed to conduct a gait analysis of Chaudhary and recover a pair of full-length trousers that he was allegedly wearing when he left home on the day of the incident. The prosecution stated that most of the other material evidence had already been recovered.

The investigation into the alleged murder of Pune-based realtor Ketan Agarwal is ongoing, with police continuing to collect evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the case.
