Pune: Applying for a passport or renewing an existing one will become more expensive from July 1, 2026, as the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced revised passport service charges. The updated fee structure applies to fresh passports, renewals, Tatkal applications, replacement of lost or damaged passports, Police Clearance Certificates (PCC), and several other passport-related services. A separate fee schedule has also been introduced for Indian citizens applying from abroad.
Under the revised rates, an ordinary 36-page passport for applicants aged 18 years and above, whether a fresh application or reissue, will cost ₹2,500, up from ₹1,500. Applicants opting for the Tatkal service will have to pay ₹5,000, including the normal application fee.

For those choosing a 60-page passport, the normal fee has been increased to ₹3,500, while the Tatkal charge has been fixed at ₹6,000.
Applicants seeking a replacement passport due to loss or damage will also pay more. The fee for replacing a lost or damaged 36-page passport has been increased to ₹5,000, while a replacement 60-page passport will cost ₹6,000.
Passport fees for minor applicants have also been revised. A fresh or reissued 36-page passport for children below 18 years will now cost ₹1,750, compared to the earlier ₹1,000. For passports valid for five years or until the child turns 18 years of age, the revised fee is ₹4,250. Replacement of a lost or damaged passport for minors will also attract higher charges.
The government has also revised charges for miscellaneous passport services. The fee for issuing a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC), Surrender Certificate, Global Entry Programme verification and similar passport-based certificates has been increased from ₹500 to ₹750.
Indian citizens applying for passport services from outside India will now pay under a separate fee structure. For example, a fresh 36-page passport application abroad will cost US$125 under the normal category and US$250 under the Tatkal category.
Despite the increase in fees, the government has retained the 10 per cent discount on fresh passport applications for children below eight years and senior citizens above 60 years. However, this concession will not apply to passport reissues.
The revised fee structure is part of the government’s effort to update passport service charges across various categories. Applicants planning to apply or renew their passports after July 1 are advised to check the latest fee schedule before submitting their applications.
