Pune: Family Files Medical Negligence Complaint After Newborn Dies Following Delayed C-Section at Wagholi Hospital
Pune, June 30, 2026: A family has accused a private hospital in Kesnand of medical negligence after their newborn died during childbirth. The baby’s father has submitted a written complaint to the Wagholi Police, seeking legal action against the hospital and those allegedly responsible for the incident.
According to the complaint, the incident took place on June 21 at Shashwat Hospital, where Dipali Rakesh Moze had been receiving prenatal treatment for the past seven months. She was admitted to the hospital at around 5.30 a.m. after she went into labour.
The family alleged that by 10 a.m., after her water broke and labour pains intensified, doctors initially attempted a normal delivery. When it became clear that a natural delivery was not possible, the family was informed that an emergency caesarean section was required, and the husband’s consent was obtained.
The complaint claims that the hospital was not immediately equipped to conduct the surgery. It alleges that the treating doctor contacted the obstetrician and anaesthetist only after deciding to perform the C-section, resulting in a delay of nearly one to one-and-a-half hours before the specialists arrived.
According to the family, the delay led to serious complications, including uterine rupture and placental abruption, which allegedly caused the baby to suffer oxygen deprivation. The caesarean section was eventually carried out, but the newborn reportedly showed no signs of movement and was shifted by ambulance to a hospital in Pune for further treatment.
The complainant has also alleged that he was not allowed to accompany the baby in the ambulance and had to travel separately. Doctors at the second hospital later declared the newborn dead, following which the family performed the last rites.
The family further claimed that when they later approached the hospital seeking clarification over the incident, they were allegedly threatened by individuals called by hospital staff. A non-cognisable (NC) offence has reportedly been registered in connection with that incident.
Wagholi Police confirmed that they have received the written complaint and have initiated a preliminary inquiry. Officials said further action will be taken after examining the available evidence and verifying the allegations. The hospital has not publicly responded to the family’s claims.
