Pune, July 2, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has temporarily revised the timings of primary schools across its jurisdiction from July 1 to August 31, 2026, following the deployment of teachers for the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The revised schedule will apply to both PMC-run and private primary schools.

According to a circular issued by the PMC Primary Education Department, schools will now function from 7:00 am to 12:15 pm during the two-month period. The administration said the move is aimed at ensuring that students’ academic activities continue without disruption while allowing teachers sufficient time to perform election-related duties.

PMC officials clarified that, unlike last year when school timings were modified to provide students with adequate sleep and a more convenient morning schedule, this year’s change has been made solely due to the Election Commission’s voter list revision exercise.

Administrative Officer of the Primary Education Department, Sunanda Wakhare, and Deputy Commissioner Vasundhara Barve have instructed the heads of all PMC-run and private primary schools to immediately inform parents about the revised timings. Schools have also been directed to ensure that the temporary change does not cause inconvenience to students or their families.

The Election Commission of India has launched a Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 16 states and three Union Territories, including Maharashtra, ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Teachers have been assigned as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for the revision exercise, prompting the PMC to temporarily alter school schedules to balance academic responsibilities with election-related work.
