Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, best known for working with actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, has shared three simple principles for healthy and sustainable weight loss. In a recent video posted on Instagram, Diwekar urged people to avoid crash diets, “magic” weight-loss products and social media trends, saying lasting fitness comes from consistency and traditional eating habits.

The nutritionist stressed that weight loss should focus on improving overall health rather than achieving quick results on the weighing scale.

1) Focus on Slow and Sustainable Weight Loss

Diwekar said people should not rush the process of losing weight. According to her, healthy weight management is a long-term journey and should be approached gradually rather than through extreme diets or rapid transformations.

She explained that losing around 5 to 10 percent of body weight over a year is a sustainable goal, whether a person wants to lose a few kilograms or significantly more.

The nutritionist added that gradual weight loss can lower the risk of lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders and osteoporosis, while also benefiting skin, hair and overall well-being.

2) Stick to Traditional Foods

Sharing her second rule, Diwekar encouraged people to follow traditional Indian eating habits instead of chasing popular diet trends.

She said meals should include foods that people have grown up eating, such as dal-rice, idli-dosa, chicken with rice or fish with rice, depending on regional food habits.

According to Diwekar, many modern diets focus too much on calories and nutrients while ignoring cultural eating patterns. She said India’s traditional cuisines already provide balanced nutrition and do not need to be replaced with expensive health foods.

3) Avoid “Magic” Weight-Loss Products

Diwekar also warned people against relying on viral weight-loss hacks, detox drinks, supplements or foods promoted as quick solutions.

She said there is no single ingredient or product that can replace healthy eating, regular exercise and consistency. Instead of following every new trend on social media, people should focus on building habits they can maintain over the long term.

“The magic is in the process, not in the product,” she said, adding that sustainable lifestyle changes produce better results than temporary diet plans.

Concluding her message, Diwekar said home-cooked meals, balanced nutrition and regular physical activity remain the foundation of good health. She encouraged people to be patient with their progress and avoid comparing themselves with others on social media.

Her advice comes at a time when weight-loss trends, crash diets and viral fitness tips continue to gain popularity online, with health experts increasingly encouraging evidence-based and sustainable approaches to fitness.
