Mumbai, July 2, 2026: A 45-year-old man died, and his 12-year-old daughter was injured after the ceiling slab of their bedroom collapsed in an apartment in Navi Mumbai’s Kamothe area early on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place at around 6 am in Flat No. 101, Building No. 10 of Sai Siddhi Society in Sector 10. According to reports, Suresh Lokhande and his daughter Vedika were sleeping when a portion of the bedroom ceiling suddenly gave way and fell on them.
Hearing the loud crash, family members and neighbours rushed to the room and pulled the two out from under the debris. They were immediately taken to MGM Hospital for treatment.
Doctors declared Suresh Lokhande dead on arrival. He reportedly suffered serious head injuries in the collapse. His daughter Vedika sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is said to be stable.
The incident comes amid continuous rainfall in Maharashtra, raising concerns about the safety of ageing residential buildings. Residents of the society have demanded a thorough inspection of the building and urged authorities to carry out structural audits of other old buildings in the area.
