Pune, July 6: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has declared a holiday for all primary, secondary and higher secondary schools within its jurisdiction on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in view of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Red Alert and the prevailing heavy rainfall conditions.

The order, issued by the Primary Education Department, follows the directives of the Pune District Collector and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, as well as the latest weather forecast and warnings issued by the IMD.

According to the notification, continuous heavy rainfall has been recorded across the PCMC area, with forecasts indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rain over the next 24 hours. The decision has been taken to ensure the safety of students and to minimise risks arising from adverse weather conditions.

However, the civic body has clarified that despite the suspension of classes, all headmasters, teachers and non-teaching staff must remain present at their respective schools during office hours. They have also been directed to carry out any duties assigned by the local administration and the Disaster Management Cell without delay.

The PCMC has instructed all educational institutions to implement the order immediately and ensure strict compliance.
