Pune News: Family Alleges Delay In Treatment Led To Woman’s Death; Protest Held Outside Surya Hospital
Pune, July 8, 2026: The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) youth wing staged a protest outside Surya Hospital in Pune on Tuesday, alleging that a delay in treatment due to financial reasons resulted in the death of a woman patient. The party has also submitted a complaint at the Vishrambaug Police Station, demanding criminal action against those responsible.
According to the party, Sushila Ramesh Shinde, a resident of Sahakarnagar, was admitted to Surya Hospital in Sadashiv Peth after her health became critical. Her family has alleged that the hospital sought a substantial advance payment before beginning treatment.
The family claimed that because of their poor financial condition, they were unable to arrange the required amount immediately. They allege that while relatives were trying to gather the money, treatment was delayed, and Shinde subsequently died.
Condemning the incident, members of the NCP youth wing held a demonstration outside the hospital before approaching the Vishrambaug Police Station. In their complaint, they urged the police to register a case against the concerned doctors, hospital staff, management, and any other responsible individuals under relevant legal provisions, including charges related to culpable homicide, if applicable.
Several social activists, local residents, and journalists from the Parvati Assembly constituency were present during the protest.
The party said that emergency medical care should be provided immediately to critically ill patients, regardless of their financial circumstances. It also called for an impartial investigation into the incident, the preservation of all relevant evidence, strict legal action against those found responsible, and justice for the bereaved family.
The NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) youth wing stated that it would continue to support the victim’s family and pursue the matter until they receive justice.
Surya Hospital has not publicly responded to the claims at the time of publication.
