Pune: Rahatani Residents Allege PCMC's Neglect As Garbage Dumping Continues Near Nanekar Chowk
Pune, July 13, 2026: Residents of Rahatani have raised concerns over persistent garbage dumping on the road stretch between Nanekar Chowk and Appa Tambe Corner, alleging that the issue has remained unresolved despite repeated complaints to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).
According to residents, the affected stretch has witnessed continuous dumping of waste over the past several days, leading to unhygienic conditions, foul odour and increasing inconvenience for pedestrians, motorists and nearby housing societies.

Residents claim that multiple complaints have been lodged through the PCMC Sarathi grievance portal and with local civic officials. However, they allege that no permanent solution has been implemented.
As per discussions with PCMC officials, the garbage is reportedly being dumped by people from nearby informal settlements. Residents said officials informed them that attempts to curb the dumping have faced resistance, making enforcement difficult.
The deteriorating conditions have also led to a rise in the number of stray dogs and pigs in the area, raising concerns about public safety. Residents fear that poor road conditions, combined with waste accumulation, could increase the risk of accidents, particularly during peak traffic hours.
Apart from the garbage issue, locals have highlighted several other civic problems, including inadequate street lighting and recurring power-related issues, which they say have further affected the safety and quality of life in the neighbourhood.
The affected area is surrounded by several residential societies, with residents estimating that more than 300 families are directly impacted. They say children, senior citizens and daily commuters are among those facing the greatest inconvenience.
Residents have appealed to the civic administration to take immediate action by removing the accumulated garbage, preventing further dumping and addressing the area’s other civic issues to restore cleanliness and public safety.
The residents have also sought media intervention, hoping that wider public attention will prompt the authorities to implement a lasting solution.
