Pune: Andharban Trek Closed Until Further Notice After Landslides Damage Trail
Pune, July 13, 2026: The Forest Department has temporarily closed the popular Andharban Nature Trail in the Sudhagad Wildlife Sanctuary following extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall and multiple landslides. The trekking route will remain closed until further orders to ensure the safety of visitors.
During an inspection conducted on July 8, forest officials found severe damage at several points along the trail. Landslides had occurred at four locations, while safety railings at two spots were extensively damaged. Fast-flowing water has also made these sections hazardous for trekkers.

The inspection further revealed that large quantities of soil, rocks and uprooted trees had accumulated at four to five locations. In some stretches, mud deposits measuring up to three to four feet have made the trail completely inaccessible.
The worst-affected section is near a stream, where both iron footbridges were washed away due to landslides and debris. The surrounding area has become highly slippery, with water continuing to flow at high speed, making it unsafe for anyone to cross.
The Forest Department said that despite the recent heavy rainfall, no casualties or injuries were reported, and no trekkers were stranded in the affected area.
To prevent any mishaps, the Andharban Trek has been closed to tourists from July 9 and will remain shut until restoration work is completed and the route is declared safe for trekking.
However, the Kundalika Valley View Point will continue to remain open for tourists.
The Forest Department has appealed to visitors to cooperate with the temporary closure. It also stated that tourists who have already booked the trek online will receive a refund if the trail does not reopen before their scheduled visit or if they choose not to opt for a revised trekking date.
