Pune, July 15, 2026: A controversial poster carrying the message “This fort belongs to Hindus. Muslims are not allowed to enter” at the historic Sinhagad Fort near Pune was removed by the Forest Department after photographs of it went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism.

The poster was reportedly displayed near the entrance of the fort. Images of the notice quickly circulated online, prompting concerns over how such a message was placed at a protected historical monument.

Following the incident, Forest Department officials removed the poster.

“So far, no formal complaint has been received regarding the incident. However, we are verifying technical evidence, and appropriate legal action will be taken against those responsible for putting up the poster,” Ramaghare said.

The incident comes shortly after the Sinhagad Fort and Ghat area were temporarily closed to visitors due to heavy rainfall and landslide risks following a Red Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the Forest Department, the Sinhagad Ghat is vulnerable to landslides during periods of intense rainfall. The closure was imposed as a precaution after a landslide occurred near the fort’s main entrance, raising concerns about further rockfalls, uprooted trees, waterlogging, and other rain-related hazards.

Police are continuing their verification of evidence to identify the individuals responsible for installing the poster.
