Pune: Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro Delayed Again, Who Is Responsible ?
Pune, July 15, 2026: Former MLA and Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee Senior Vice President Mohan Joshi has questioned the continued delay in the launch of the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor despite the completion of its safety inspection. He asked why the project has still not been opened to commuters.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Joshi said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had earlier announced that the first phase of the metro would commence in May and the second phase in July. However, he alleged that neither of these timelines has been met.

Joshi said many commuters were expecting at least the first phase of the metro to become operational by July 15, but that too has not happened.
Drawing a comparison with the delayed inauguration of the new terminal at Pune Airport, Joshi questioned whether the metro launch was also being postponed to coincide with a high-profile inauguration. He alleged that the BJP government was delaying the opening to claim political credit for the project.
According to Joshi, the original project schedule envisaged the Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro becoming operational by March 2025. Since then, multiple revised launch dates—including September 2025, December 2025, March 2026, May 2026, June 15, 2026, and July 15, 2026—have reportedly been announced, but none have materialised.
He alleged that the repeated postponements reflected poor planning and unfulfilled promises by the state government, and urged the authorities to operationalise the metro corridor at the earliest to benefit commuters.
