Moshi Tragedy: Protesters Demand Action Against PCMC Environment Chief Sanjay Kulkarni Over Fatal Garbage Depot Collapse
Pimpri-Chinchwad, July 15, 2026: Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leaders and workers staged a protest outside the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters on Wednesday, demanding strict action against Chief Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni over the Moshi garbage depot tragedy that claimed nine lives last week.
Led by party office-bearers, former corporators, and local leaders, the protest saw demonstrators carrying sacks of garbage to the civic headquarters. As a symbolic gesture, they dumped garbage on a photograph of Chief Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni, holding him and the civic administration responsible for the incident.
The protesters raised slogans alleging negligence on the part of PCMC officials and called for accountability from those responsible for the fatal accident.
The protest follows the July 8 collapse of a massive garbage mound at the Moshi garbage depot, which crashed onto an administrative building, trapping 23 workers. The incident claimed nine lives, while 14 workers were rescued during an extensive rescue operation that lasted several days.
The tragedy has triggered widespread public outrage, with increasing demands for action against officials allegedly responsible for lapses in safety and waste management at the facility.
