Pune, July 16, 2026: Pune Police have uncovered a suspected illicit liquor racket in the Warje Malwadi area, seizing around 200 litres of country-made liquor allegedly mixed with hazardous chemicals that pose a serious risk to public health. Three persons, including a woman, have been booked under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

The accused have been identified as Nakita Randhir Bire (35), a resident of Warje Malwadi, along with Chhaya Kacharavat and Hritik Kacharavat, both residents of Warje. The case has been registered based on a complaint filed by Police Constable Amol Sutkar.

The police conducted the raid on the night of July 14 at an open space behind the Mahadev Temple near Shivshakti Chowk in Vitthalnagar. During the investigation, police alleged that Bire was in possession of the illicit liquor, while the other two accused assisted her in the operation.

According to investigators, the accused had procured nearly 200 litres of illicit country liquor and concealed it at multiple locations before selling it in small quantities to known customers. The liquor was allegedly prepared by mixing “Navasagar” and other toxic chemicals, making it potentially dangerous for human consumption.

The seizure comes just months after a suspected toxic liquor tragedy claimed the lives of more than 22 people in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, raising fresh concerns over the resurgence of illegal and hazardous liquor networks in the region.

Further investigation is being carried out by Police Sub-Inspector Patil.
