Pune, July 16, 2026: The Maharashtra government has decided to officially observe the birth anniversary of former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar as part of the state’s list of official birth anniversary programmes for eminent personalities in 2026.

The General Administration Department issued an official circular regarding the decision on Wednesday, July 15. The move recognises Ajit Pawar’s long public service and his contribution to the development of Maharashtra.

Ajit Pawar Jayanti To Be Observed On July 22

According to the government notification, Ajit Pawar’s birth anniversary will be celebrated across Maharashtra on July 22 every year. On the occasion, floral tributes will be offered to his portrait at the Mantralaya, all government and semi-government offices across the state.

The decision will also apply to schools and colleges. Educational institutions across Maharashtra will organise programmes to remember and highlight Ajit Pawar’s work and contributions.

Divisional commissioners and district collectors have been instructed to ensure proper planning and implementation of the celebrations in their respective jurisdictions.

Sunetra Pawar Shares Appreciation Post

Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar shared a post on social media welcoming the government’s decision. She said the inclusion of Ajit Pawar’s birth anniversary in the official list of celebrations from 2026 was not merely a government order but a recognition of his lifelong efforts towards Maharashtra’s development and public welfare.

She said Ajit Pawar set new standards of efficiency in administration and worked extensively in areas including infrastructure, irrigation, industries, education, sports, rural development and public welfare.

According to Sunetra Pawar, Ajit Pawar’s decision-making ability, leadership and people-oriented approach played an important role in Maharashtra’s progress. She added that he was not just a political leader but was regarded by people as “Dada” due to his close connection with citizens.

She further said that every year on July 22, government offices would pay tribute to Ajit Pawar by offering floral honours to his portrait, and that his legacy of public service, development vision and dedication towards people would continue to inspire future generations.

The government’s decision has been described by his supporters as a recognition of his contribution to Maharashtra’s political and administrative landscape.
