Pune, July 16, 2026: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pune Division, has launched a special enforcement drive under the “Safe Food, Safe Drug, Safe Maharashtra” campaign initiated by Maharashtra Food Safety Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. During inspections at multiple locations, the department seized suspected adulterated food products worth ₹8.33 lakh and confiscated banned food items valued at ₹22,789.

The FDA conducted inspections at three different locations on July 14, 2026, and seized a total of 4,352 kg of food products worth ₹8,33,391 due to suspected adulteration and deficiencies in product labelling.

Action Taken in Sangli District

Based on confidential information, the Sangli FDA team conducted a surprise inspection at the cattle shed of M/s Ramchandra Dhondiram Patil in Salagre, Miraj taluka, Sangli district.

During the inspection, officials found that dairy permit powder and refined soybean oil were allegedly being used for milk adulteration. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Miraj Police Station against Ramchandra Dhondiram Patil and a powder supplier. Further investigation is underway.

The team collected two milk samples from the location and seized 22 litres of milk worth ₹868 on suspicion of adulteration. Since the milk was a perishable item, it was destroyed.

In another action based on confidential information, the FDA team inspected the cattle shed of M/s Bajrang Babaso Patil in Salagre, Miraj taluka, Sangli district.

Officials found that refined sunflower oil was allegedly being used for milk adulteration. An FIR has been registered against Bajrang Babaso Patil at Miraj Police Station, and further investigation is in progress.

The FDA collected two milk samples and seized 54 litres of milk worth ₹2,856 on suspicion of adulteration. The milk was later destroyed due to its perishable nature.

Pune Market Yard Inspection

In Pune district, the FDA inspected M/s B G Goyal & Company located at 348, Market Yard, Gultekdi, Pune.

During the inspection, officials collected four food samples, including turmeric powder (Sant Brand and Sadhu Brand), sesame seeds and soybean chunks. A total stock of 4,172 kg worth ₹8,14,630 was seized due to suspected adulteration and shortcomings in labelling.

The department issued a notice directing the establishment to stop business operations until further orders, as the firm had failed to comply with necessary provisions under the Food Safety and Standards Act and had not made required corrections in its licence.

Action Against Sale of Banned Food Products

The FDA also conducted inspections at three establishments in Pune and Kolhapur districts and seized banned food products worth ₹22,789.

On July 14, 2026, inspections were carried out at one establishment in Bopodi, Pune, and two establishments in Kolhapur. Cases were registered against the concerned persons under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and arrests were made.

The FDA stated that strict action will continue against businesses operating without licences, violating food safety regulations, selling substandard or adulterated products, and failing to follow prescribed norms.
