17 July, 2026: The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the FSSAI licence of Mumbai-based Parsi Dairy Farm Pvt. Ltd. after inspectors found serious hygiene and food safety violations at its Princess Street facility in Marine Lines. The action came during a statewide enforcement drive conducted between July 14 and 16 against food adulteration, misbranding and unsafe food products.

According to the FDA, an inspection carried out on July 14 revealed multiple violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Food Business Licensing and Registration Regulations, 2011. Officials reported unhygienic conditions, mould growth, pest infestation, poor sanitation, damaged infrastructure, improper food handling practices and products lacking mandatory expiry or “best before” labels.

Based on the inspection report, the Designated Officer and the Assistant Commissioner (Food), Division-1, issued an order on July 15 suspending the dairy’s licence. During the suspension period, the establishment has been barred from manufacturing, storing, selling or distributing food products. Authorities warned that any violation of the suspension order would invite legal action.

The action against Parsi Dairy Farm was part of a larger crackdown carried out by the FDA across Maharashtra. In Goregaon, officials, along with the Crime Branch, uncovered a milk tampering racket and seized 822 milk packets, equivalent to 558 litres, valued at ₹39,503. Two accused were arrested and an FIR was registered.

In Govandi, authorities destroyed 1,683 litres of loose pasteurised buffalo milk that was allegedly being sold without the mandatory tamper-proof packaging. In Mulund, officials seized 61.25 kg of cheese products, paneer and barfi worth ₹19,759 over labelling violations and suspected misbranding.

The FDA also seized dairy products worth ₹32.10 lakh from a Palghar facility linked to Parsi Dairy Farm over suspected quality and labelling issues. In Vasai, officials seized 181 kg of loose paneer worth ₹57,920 from Shiv Dairy for alleged quality violations and operating without a valid food licence.

The enforcement drive extended to several other districts. In Akola, officials busted a prohibited food manufacturing unit and seized stocks, machinery and raw materials worth over ₹1.23 crore. In Jalgaon, banned food products worth ₹12.15 lakh were seized, while separate operations in Mumbai’s Malad and Vikhroli led to the seizure of banned food items and the registration of criminal cases.

Other enforcement actions included sampling mango pulp worth around ₹79 lakh from a processing unit in Wadala, seizing 48 kg of samosas from an unlicensed establishment in Nashik, confiscating expired soft drinks from a resort in Amravati, and seizing food products worth ₹8.14 lakh from a trader in Pune’s Market Yard over suspected quality and labelling violations.

According to the FDA, the statewide drive involved 24 enforcement operations and resulted in the seizure of more than ₹1.90 crore worth of food products. Authorities also confiscated 2,317 litres of milk, nearly 6,850 kg of dairy products and 30 litres of refined edible oil allegedly used for adulteration, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety standards across Maharashtra.
