Living Within 20 km of a Toll Plaza? NHAI’s New Rajmargyatra App Feature Lets You Buy Local Pass Online
21 July, 2026: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a new digital ‘Local Pass’ feature on the Rajmargyatra Mobile App, allowing residents living within a 20-kilometre radius of eligible toll plazas to purchase monthly toll passes online.
The initiative enables eligible commuters to complete the entire application process digitally without having to visit a toll plaza. Earlier, applicants were required to physically submit supporting documents to verify their eligibility. Under the new system, the process can now be completed within minutes through the mobile application.
According to NHAI, the digital service uses consent-based integration with government platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to automatically retrieve verified details related to the applicant’s address, vehicle registration and linked FASTag. Eligibility is further verified through GIS-based location checks, reducing paperwork while improving transparency and convenience.
The first digital local pass service has been rolled out at the Mundka–Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). NHAI said the facility will be expanded to more toll plazas across the country in the coming months.
Alongside the local pass feature, NHAI has also launched the ‘MargMitra’ Help Centre within the Rajmargyatra App. The digital assistance platform provides users with information on FASTag recharge, KYC requirements, refund status, annual and local pass services, and other commonly asked queries.
The help centre also enables users to register complaints related to National Highways, track the status of their grievances in real time and file appeals if they are dissatisfied with the resolution. Additionally, commuters can check FASTag blacklisting status, view pending e-notices and report road safety issues such as stalled vehicles or encroachments.
NHAI has encouraged National Highway users to download the Rajmargyatra Mobile App on Android and iOS devices to access its expanding range of digital services aimed at making highway travel safer, more efficient and convenient.
