Pune: Masked Burglars Cut Through Door Grill, Loot ₹27.15 Lakh From Wanowrie Contractor's Home
An elderly civil contractor was allegedly robbed of cash and gold jewellery worth ₹27.15 lakh after three unidentified masked men broke into his residence in Pune’s Wanowrie area in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to an FIR registered at the Wanowrie Police Station, the complainant, Manesh Shevantilal Shah (65), a resident of Parmar Park Phase 1 on Shivarkar Road, was asleep at his home between 3:00 am and 4:00 am on July 21, 2026, when the incident occurred.
Police said the three accused, believed to be 20 to 22 years old, were wearing hooded sweatshirts, face masks and had a slim build. They allegedly cut through the rear door grill to gain entry into the house.
The intruders reportedly assaulted Shah, threatened him, and looted valuables from the house. The stolen property includes 174 grams of gold and diamond jewellery, along with ₹13.15 lakh in cash. The jewellery also included ornaments belonging to the complainant’s wife and mother-in-law. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at ₹27.15 lakh.
Based on Shah’s complaint, Wanowrie Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 331(6), 305 and 3(5), against three unidentified persons.
Senior police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajlaxmi Shivankar, Assistant Commissioners Ingawale and Rajendra Mulik, along with officers from the Crime Branch and Wanowrie Police Station, visited the crime scene.
The investigation is being carried out by Police Sub-Inspector Shekhar Mokate of Wanowrie Police Station. Police are examining evidence collected from the scene and efforts are underway to identify and trace the accused.
