The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an increase in rainfall activity across Maharashtra over the next 48 hours, issuing Orange Alerts for five districts and Yellow Alerts for 19 districts. A Red Alert has also been issued for the Pune Ghat region, where extremely heavy rainfall is expected.

According to the IMD, rainfall intensity has picked up over the past two days and is likely to increase further on July 23 and July 24. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Konkan, the Western Ghats, and North Maharashtra, with residents advised to remain alert.

Orange Alert for Konkan and Nashik Ghats

The districts of Palghar, Raigad, and Ratnagiri are under an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. An Orange Alert has also been issued for the Nashik Ghat region, where intense showers are likely.

Meanwhile, Thane, Mumbai, and Sindhudurg have been placed under a Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall. Strong winds of 50–60 kmph are also expected along the Konkan coast, prompting authorities to urge residents and fishermen to exercise caution.

Red Alert for Pune Ghats

While Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, and Solapur are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall, the Pune Ghat region is under a Red Alert due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall.

The Satara Ghat region is expected to witness heavy to very heavy rain, while the Kolhapur Ghats remain under a Yellow Alert for heavy showers.

North Maharashtra and Vidarbha on Alert

The districts of Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Nashik are likely to experience heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning and remain under a Yellow Alert. Ahilyanagar is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall.

In Vidarbha, Yellow Alerts have been issued for Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal, where light to heavy rainfall is expected over the next two days.

Marathwada to Receive Moderate Rain

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv, with rainfall expected to be less intense than in other regions of the state.

Safety Advisory

With rainfall expected to intensify over the next two days, the IMD has advised people to avoid rivers, streams, waterfalls, and other flood-prone areas. Residents are also urged to remain alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds, and to follow official weather advisories and safety instructions.
