Cockroach Janta Party’s Instagram Account Blocked in India After Protest

The official Instagram account of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has been blocked in India following a legal request. Users trying to access the page now see a message stating that the account is “not available in India” because Instagram has complied with a legal request to restrict the content.

The restriction comes a day after the CJP’s march to Parliament over alleged NEET irregularities turned violent.

Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought responses from the Centre and Delhi Police on two petitions alleging that police used excessive force against protesters during the July 20 demonstration.

A bench led by Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia directed the authorities to preserve all records related to the incident, including CCTV footage and videography, in line with standard procedures. The court also gave the Centre and Delhi Police four weeks to file their replies.

The matter has been listed for its next hearing on September 11.

Representing the petitioners, senior advocates N. Hariharan, Vikas Singh and Gopal Sankaranarayanan argued that police action during the protest was excessive and affected women and children as well. They said the demonstrators were peacefully protesting against alleged NEET irregularities and were exercising their fundamental right to protest.

However, Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju opposed the petitions, arguing that they were primarily based on social media posts and therefore were not legally maintainable.
