Pawna Dam Crosses 90% Storage; Authorities Warn )f Possible Water Release In Next Few Hours
Pune, July 22, 2026: The Khadakwasla Irrigation Division has issued an advisory warning that Pawna Dam has crossed 90% of its storage capacity, with a strong possibility of water being released through the spillway in the coming hours due to continuous rainfall in the catchment area.
According to the irrigation department, the dam is receiving significant inflows following persistent rainfall, and the reservoir is expected to fill further over the next few hours. Depending on the rainfall intensity and inflow levels, controlled discharge from the spillway may be initiated.

Authorities have appealed to residents to stay away from the riverbed and avoid entering areas downstream of the dam. People have also been advised to immediately shift livestock, equipment, and any materials lying in or near the river channel to safer locations.
The administration has directed local authorities to alert residents living in low-lying areas and take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure public safety.
The Irrigation Department has urged citizens to remain vigilant, follow official advisories, and cooperate with authorities until further updates are issued.
The advisory was issued by the Executive Engineer, Khadakwasla Irrigation Division, Pune, at 8:00 pm on July 22, 2026.
