PM Modi Announces High-Level Task Force Led By Nandan Nilekani To Overhaul India's Examination System
New Delhi, July 26, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a high-powered task force, headed by Aadhaar architect and technology expert Nandan Nilekani, to reform India’s examination system and prevent question paper leaks and exam-related malpractices.
In a video message shared on Sunday, the Prime Minister said the task force will be responsible for making the country’s examination process more transparent, secure, and technology-driven. The move comes in the wake of the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy, which triggered widespread concerns over the credibility of competitive examinations.
Modi said the government has already taken several measures to protect students’ interests, including initiating legal action against those involved in exam fraud. He added that fast-track courts have been set up to ensure swift justice in such cases and that a stringent new law aimed at preventing examination malpractice will soon be introduced in Parliament.
“The future of India’s youth cannot be compromised. Those who tamper with examinations are being brought to justice, and we are strengthening the legal framework to ensure such incidents do not recur,” the Prime Minister said.
The newly constituted task force will recommend reforms to build a robust, hack-proof examination ecosystem using advanced technology and global best practices. Its recommendations are expected to serve as the foundation for restoring transparency and public confidence in the country’s examination system.
Education Ministry Gets New Leadership
The announcement comes shortly after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down from his post. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has been assigned additional charge of the Ministry of Education.
After assuming office, Joshi thanked Prime Minister Modi for entrusting him with the responsibility and pledged to continue implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) while working to strengthen India’s education system under the Prime Minister’s guidance.
The Centre’s latest initiatives signal a broader effort to modernise the country’s examination framework, improve accountability, and ensure fair opportunities for millions of students appearing for competitive examinations each year.
