Pune: 63 Year Old Mohammadwadi Resident Dies Of Electrocution; Open Power Distribution Boxes Of MSEDCL Raise Safety Concerns
Pune :Â The recent electrocution death of a 63-year-old woman in Hadapsar has intensified concerns over damaged and uncovered electrical distribution boxes across Pune, with residents urging authorities to immediately address the hazards before another tragedy occurs.
The deceased, Hirabai Laxman Javir (63), reportedly suffered a fatal electric shock on Sunday morning in Krishna Nagar, Mahadevwadi, Hadapsar. According to local residents, the incident was allegedly caused by leakage of electricity from an exposed power distribution box and its adjoining utility pole.
Following the incident, citizens from several parts of the city have highlighted the poor condition of electrical infrastructure, claiming that damaged distribution panels, exposed wiring and open streetlight control boxes continue to pose a serious risk, particularly during the ongoing monsoon.
Local residents said exposed electrical equipment on footpaths becomes especially dangerous during heavy rainfall, increasing the risk of electric shocks for pedestrians, schoolchildren and commuters. They have called for immediate repairs, proper barricading and warning signage around all damaged installations.
Residents have urged MSEDCL to conduct a citywide inspection of electrical infrastructure, repair damaged distribution boxes without delay, and secure all exposed electrical installations. They have also appealed to PMC to coordinate with the power utility to eliminate electrical hazards from public spaces, particularly during the monsoon season when the risk of electrocution is significantly higher.
