Pimpri, July 27, 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Monday reviewed the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed metro expansion, with Mayor Ravi Landge directing MahaMetro to revise the plan to meet the city’s long-term transportation needs.

Chairing a meeting on the proposed metro corridors, Mayor Landge stressed that the metro network should be designed not only to address current demand but also to support Pimpri Chinchwad’s rapid urban growth over the coming decades.

The meeting was attended by MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, Members of Parliament and Legislative Assembly, PCMC office-bearers, senior civic officials, and representatives from MahaMetro.

During the meeting, MahaMetro presented the proposed metro expansion plan through a detailed digital presentation, outlining the proposed routes, project feasibility, expected passenger capacity, future expansion plans, integration with other modes of public transport, and alignment with the city’s development plan.

Officials discussed the need to ensure that the metro network effectively connects emerging residential neighbourhoods, industrial areas, IT parks, educational institutions, commercial hubs, and major transport corridors. Participants also recommended incorporating projected population growth and future urban expansion while finalising the DPR.

The meeting emphasised the importance of seamless connectivity to metro stations through feeder bus services, adequate parking facilities, multimodal transport integration, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, cycling tracks, and efficient last-mile connectivity.

Officials noted that the proposed metro expansion is expected to reduce traffic congestion, lower vehicular pollution, improve public transportation, and support the continued growth of Pimpri Chinchwad’s industrial and IT sectors while making daily commuting more convenient for residents.

Addressing the meeting, Mayor Ravi Landge said Pimpri Chinchwad is among India’s fastest-growing cities and requires a metro network that is planned with a long-term vision. He directed MahaMetro to incorporate necessary improvements in the DPR to ensure the project remains inclusive, future-oriented, and capable of meeting the transportation needs of the city’s expanding population.
