Bhakti-Shakti, Wakad, Nashik Phata – Chakan Metro Corridor Gains Momentum; Revised DPR Presented

Pimpri, July 28, 2026: The proposed Bhakti-Shakti–Wakad–Nashik Phata–Chakan Metro corridor under Pune Metro Phase II has moved a step closer to implementation, marking a significant development for public transportation in Pimpri-Chinchwad and the Chakan industrial belt. The progress follows sustained efforts by Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, who consistently pursued the project with the Maharashtra Legislature and the Urban Development Department, urging the government to approve the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR).

The revised DPR was presented on Monday, paving the way for the next stage of the approval process.

According to the revised report, the proposed metro line will span 47.215 kilometres, will be fully elevated, and include 34 stations. The project is estimated to cost ₹12,937 crore. Once completed, the corridor will provide direct metro connectivity to key residential, commercial, and industrial areas including Nigdi, Ravet, Punawale, Tathawade, Wakad, Pimple Saudagar, Nashik Phata, Bhosari, Moshi, and Chakan.

Revised DPR Presented at MahaMetro Headquarters

The revised DPR for the proposed Nigdi–Chakan Metro corridor was presented at MahaMetro’s headquarters in Phugewadi on July 27, 2026, before elected representatives and civic officials.

MahaMetro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar briefed attendees on the proposed alignment, station locations, and the project’s future implementation roadmap.

The meeting was attended by Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Ravi Landge, Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, MLAs Mahesh Landge, Uma Khapre, Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, party leader Prashant Shitole, Standing Committee Chairman Abhishek Barne, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Trupti Sandbhor, UMTC consultant Rajneesh Podwal, and other senior officials.

MLA Jagtap Highlights Progress

MLA Shankar Jagtap said MahaMetro had submitted the revised DPR to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation on February 26, 2026. With the presentation now completed before public representatives, he expressed confidence that the project would move forward in the approval process.

He noted that the revised DPR proposes a 47.215-km fully elevated corridor with 34 stations, at an estimated investment of ₹12,937 crore. He added that continuous follow-up with the State Government, MahaMetro, and the municipal administration had accelerated the administrative process and brought the project closer to receiving the necessary approvals.

Issue Raised in the Maharashtra Legislature

Jagtap said he has consistently advocated strengthening public transportation in Pimpri-Chinchwad, citing rapid urbanisation, industrial growth, expansion of the IT sector, and increasing vehicular traffic.

During the Winter Session of the Maharashtra Legislature in December 2025, he raised the issue of the pending revised DPR for the Nigdi–Chakan Metro corridor via Wakad, urging the government to grant immediate approval and expedite the project to improve the city’s transport infrastructure.

He also noted that Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal, in a letter dated June 19, 2026, had informed him that several of his recommendations had been incorporated into the revised DPR.

Proposed Metro Stations

The proposed corridor will include the following 34 stations:

Bhakti-Shakti, Transport Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Mukai Chowk, Ravet, Punawale Gaon, Punawale, Tathawade Gaon, Tathawade, Bhumkar Chowk, Bhujbal Chowk, Wakad, Vishal Nagar Corner, Kokane Chowk, Pimple Saudagar, Pimple Gurav, Nashik Phata, Sant Tukaram Nagar, Vallabh Nagar, Gawali Matha Chowk, Century Enka Corner, Landewadi, Bhosari Gaon, Bhosari Sector-1, Godown Chowk, PIECC, Bharat Mata Moshi, Chimbli Phata, Barge Vasti, Kuruli, Alandi Phata, Nanekarwadi, and Chakan.

• Reduce dependence on private vehicles, fuel consumption, and vehicular pollution.
• Promote residential, commercial, and industrial development along the corridor.
