Govt caps plasma therapy rates; hospitals can’t charge above Rs 5500

Maharashtra state government yesterday, September 24, 2020 announced fixed rates for Covid19 patients undergoing plasma therapy, known as plasmapheresis. Minister for public health and family welfare, Rajesh Tope announced the rates, stating that for Covid positive patients the rates for plasma are fixed at Rs 5500.
Elaborating on the information shared yesterday, he said that if hospitals are found violating this, stern action shall be taken against them. Also the hospitals shall have to return the excess amount. Also, in case the blood bank fails to follow the norm, their blood bank license shall be revoked.
Tope further said that the rates have been capped so that there is systematic collection of plasma and also the service charge for additional tests / special tests on blood as prescribed in the National Blood Policy. A plasma bag of 200 ml can be charged upto Rs 5500. This is indeed a great move by the government to make plasmapheresis to make affordable for all.
